COMPASS® for Windows Technical Specifications

The following specifications are required to run the COMPASS for Windows® version on workstations.

NOTE: ACT testing of Update 3 for Version 3.2 included testing on Microsoft® Windows® XP and Microsoft® Windows® 2000. If you are a Windows® 95 or Windows® 98 user, ACT is not aware of any specific reason why the system will not perform correctly, but use of the COMPASS system on these platforms will be performed at your own risk.

Standalone Computers

Minimum Requirements:

  • Pentium/100MHz
  • Windows® 98 SE with 16MB RAM (32MB recommended) or Windows NT® v4.0 with 32MB RAM
  • 112MB hard disk space available for COMPASS only (238MB additional for ESL files)
  • 4x CD-ROM drive
  • 800 x 600 video card with 256 colors, 1MB VRAM
  • SVGA monitor
  • Access to a printer (optional, but needed to print score reports)
  • 16-bit sound card with headphones for each ESL computer
  • Display must be set to 800 x 600 resolution (mandatory)

Network Systems

Minimum Requirements:

  • Pentium/100MHz
  • Windows® 98 SE with 16MB RAM (32MB recommended) or Windows NT® v4.0 with 32MB RAM
  • 5MB hard disk space available on workstations for COMPASS files
  • 112MB hard disk space available on server for COMPASS only (238MB additional for ESL files)
  • 800 x 600 video card with 256 colors, 1MB VRAM
  • SVGA monitor
  • Access to a printer (optional, but needed to print score reports)
  • 16-bit sound card with headphones for each ESL computer
  • At least one workstation must have a 4x CD-ROM drive to load the COMPASS software.
  • Display must be set to 800 x 600 resolution (mandatory)

NOTE:

  • Ports 80 and 443 are required for e-Write in COMPASS Windows® Version 3.2.
  • An active Internet connection and Java Virtual Machine are required to administer e-Write tests.

Please refer to Chapter 11 of the software manual for additional requirements necessary to run e-Write.
