Four Teachers will Help Develop ACT Assessment

IOWA CITY, IowaACT has chosen four teachers from across the country to participate in this summer's Visiting Teacher Program. They will help develop, evaluate and review materials for the ACT Assessment, the nationally recognized college entrance exam. The teachers were chosen from among 43 applicants representing 15 states.
- Jessical Badio teaches English and French at Ramsay High School in Birmingham, Ala. Badio is fluent in five languages and has spent time teaching in Haiti, as well as at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She will work with ACT's Classroom Connections staff to create instructional support materials.
- Domingo Torres-Rangel teaches many levels of math at Gabrielino High School in San Gabriel, Calif. Torres-Rangel is one of a group of educators who founded Gabrielino High School in the Los Angeles suburb. He will work with the test development staff to review, evaluate and develop ACT Math Test materials.
- BilliJo Saffold teaches English, literature and communications at John Marshall High School in Milwaukee, Wis. Saffold has worked with her colleagues to create a new language arts curriculum based on standardized test scores for freshmen and sophomores in her high school. She will work with the language arts test development staff to review, evaluate and develop ACT English, Reading and Writing Test materials.
- Kimberley Savage teaches English at Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Ga. Savage facilitates a writing workshop at her school to help students on the state graduation test. She will also work with the language arts test development staff to review, evaluate and develop ACT English, Reading and Writing Test materials.
"We are impressed by these teachers' range of classroom experience and their dedication to the work of educating young students," said David Duer, senior test development associate at ACT. "We look forward to both learning from them and involving them in our work."
The Visiting Teachers will work with ACT staff for six weeks this summer at the ACT national headquarters in Iowa City, Iowa. The teachers will use their classroom experience to review materials for and in support of the ACT Assessment, as well as make recommendations for improvements.
