ACT Names President/COO of Education Division

August 14, 2006

IOWA CITY, Iowa—ACT has named Cynthia Board Schmeiser to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer of its Education Division.

Schmeiser has been with ACT for more than 30 years. She started as a research associate in test development in 1973 and held a number of different positions before she was named vice president of development, where she served for 19 years. In 2003, Schmeiser was named senior vice president of research and development. She holds bachelor's degrees in psychology and elementary education from the University of Iowa, as well as a master's and Ph.D in educational psychology, measurement, and statistics, also from the University of Iowa.

"While the array of titles that Cyndie has held at ACT is impressive, it pales in comparison to her impact on ACT's work," said ACT's CEO Richard Ferguson. "She has been fully committed to ACT in each of her roles and, as a result, has contributed greatly to the organization's growth, both in its programs and services, and its national impact and influence."

Schmeiser currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of United Way of Johnson County, as outreach coordinator for the Family Concert Series, and as a member of the Mercy Hospital-Iowa City Board of Directors. She also serves on the Board of Trustees for the American College of Education and on a number of other national advisory committees in education. She and her husband, Russ, have two children Ally, 19, and Peter, 16.
