ACT Hires New Vice Presidents

IOWA CITY, Iowa— ACT, Inc. has filled numerous leadership roles as part of its restructuring effort, including four vice president positions. Among them are Melissa Murer Corrigan, Edward W Walters III, Bernard Dutchik, and Mukesh Agarwal. In addition, David Chadima and Janice Murray have been promoted to assistant vice president positions at ACT. John Corrigan has also been hired for the same title in a different department. [caption id="attachment_1724" align="alignleft" width="125" caption="Melissa Murer Corrigan"]Photo of Melissa Murer Corrigan[/caption] Melissa Murer Corrigan Melissa Murer Corrigan is bringing more than 15 years of senior-level management experience to the vice president position within the Workforce Development area at ACT. She will be responsible for managing all test development functions for the Workforce Department. She will also oversee product development. Murer Corrigan is coming to ACT from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), where she served as executive director and chief executive officer. As a founding leader of PTCB, Murer Corrigan is considered a visionary within the pharmacy community. During her time as CEO, the organization certified more than 400,000 pharmacy technicians worldwide. “Her extensive experience in the test development and certification fields will be a tremendous asset, not only to the Workforce Development Division, but to ACT,” said Martin Scaglione, ACT Workforce Development president. Murer Corrigan earned her B.S. in Pharmacy from Drake University. [caption id="attachment_1738" align="alignright" width="125" caption="Ed Walters"]Photo fo Ed Walters[/caption] Edward W Walters III Edward W Walters III is taking on the role of ACT’s first vice president of marketing and communications. Walters will supervise the corporate strategy and marketing team and oversee the group’s day-to-day operations. Coming to ACT from ConocoPhillips, Walters previously served as strategy and research leader for the company’s communications and public affairs team. A military veteran, Walters was also a Presidential Appointee working for the U.S. Department of Defense as chief marketing officer and principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army. In addition, Walters worked as a strategy consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton, brand manager for Kraft Foods, and intelligence officer for the U.S. Army. Walters holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University – Kennedy School of Government, a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University, and a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy. Dutchik will be responsible for managing and implementing the proper processes, methods, tools and skill development to be used in ACT projects. He will also be the central coach and contact person for a team of project managers. Dutchik’s background includes process and manufacturing engineering and quality and operations management. He earned his MBA from the University of Central Florida and also holds a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University. Dutchik earned his undergraduate degree at Iowa State University. He and his wife live in Iowa City with their three children. Mukesh Agarwal [caption id="attachment_1728" align="alignright" width="125" caption="Mukesh Argawal"]Photo of Mukesh Argawal[/caption] Mukesh Agarwal has joined ACT’s management team as vice president of quality and reliability management. Agarwal will be responsible for defining processes, methods and tools for ACT’s Quality Management System. He comes to ACT with more than 25 years of experience with quality, purchasing, manufacturing, and project management. Before coming to ACT, Agarwal worked at Alcoa and Lucent Technologies. Agarwal has earned his MBA, is a Certified Quality Auditor and holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He brings nine years of experience at ACT to the position. In his new role, Chadima will be in charge of strategic planning and management oversight of international operations. Previously, he worked in Educational Services at the not-for-profit focusing on postsecondary outcomes and placement programs. Before coming to ACT, Chadima worked for multinational advertising agencies in China and Taiwan. He was the group account director for Dentsu and managing director of DDB Needham in Beijing. While in these positions, he helped multinational corporations interpret and promote their brands in Asian markets. Some of the corporations included Budweiser, Colgate, Johnson & Johnson, McDonald’s and Volkswagen. Chadima holds an MBA and also a Bachelor of Arts in Asian Studies from The University of Iowa. [caption id="attachment_1737" align="alignright" width="125" caption="Janice Murray"]Photo of Janice Murray[/caption] Janice Murray Janice Murray is now serving as assistant vice president of strategy management and reporting. In her new position Murray, will oversee the execution and reporting of strategic initiatives. She will also work with the chief of staff to ensure plans are in place and resources are aligned properly. Prior to accepting her new role, Murray served at ACT in a variety of ways, including as the vendor manager and then as director of client management in Information Technology. Most recently, she spent time working under the CEO’s office as the director of project management. “In these various roles at ACT, Janice has developed a broad and deep understanding of our business units, as well as the shared services that support our business. This background uniquely positions her for working on our corporate strategic initiatives,” said Janet Godwin, ACT chief of staff. Before working at ACT, Murray was the director of information technology at Kirkwood Community College. In his position, Corrigan will oversee ACT’s corporate exploration and analysis of new business ventures. Before accepting his new role, Corrigan worked with ACT as a marketing consultant. Most recently, he served as president of Westmeath Group LLC. Corrigan earned his master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University. He also has a bachelor’s degree from Drake University.
