In this program, you will learn about the universe, and physical and mathematical laws which govern its parts, such as planets and stars. You will study matter and energy in the universe. You will take mathematics and physics and other introductory courses. You will learn about current theories related to origins and future of the universe, current knowledge of planets and moons in our solar system, and basic physical laws of the formation and evolution of the universe.
Degrees
- A bachelor's degree is usually required to work as a technician at an observatory or planetarium.
- An advanced degree may be needed to work for museums or the government.
- A doctoral degree is required to teach in college or do independent research.
- Specialties in this major may lead to jobs in the fields of astronomy or as a professor; or with training and opportunity, as an astronaut.
