BUSINESS AGENTS represent, advise, and act as an agent for talented individuals, such as actors, writers, models, athletes, producers, and performers. They read manuscripts, present to editors and publishers, and negotiate contracts. They audition performers, promote their clients and negotiate bookings. They schedule appearances, arrange media interviews, make travel arrangements, and promote client interest. Sports agents negotiate contracts and working conditions for their clients with professional sports teams. Agents spend a good part of their day on the telephone making arrangements for meetings, discussing prospects, negotiating deals, and networking connections.

Entry Requirements
There is no specific path of education for BUSINESS AGENTS, but most agencies require a college degree. A degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a discipline related to a certain subject is preferred. Although college is most often required, qualifications for the job are based on ability, knowledge, and experience acquired through on-the-job learning and dealing with others in the profession. Prospective agents usually start near the bottom in entertainment organizations or publishing houses, for example, to gain experience.
