FOREIGN TRADE CLERKS are responsible for certain kinds of monetary computations required by foreign commerce. They may compute duties, tariffs, weight volume and price conversions of merchandise exported to or imported from foreign countries. They also examine documents such as invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements, and convert foreign currency figures into U.S. monetary equivalents, or domestic currency into foreign equivalents.

Entry Requirements

Most employers require applicants for FOREIGN TRADE CLERK positions to have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. Employers also prefer to hire those who are computer literate. High schools, business schools, and community colleges offer business education programs. No special licensing or certification is required for foreign trade clerks.
