Residential Counselor

RESIDENTIAL COUNSELORS coordinate activities and provide individual and group guidance services for residents of schools, colleges, care and treatment institutions, children's homes, or similar establishments. They counsel residents in identifying and resolving scholastic, educational, personal, and social problems. Residential counselors supervise residence activities, investigate reports of misconduct, and try to resolve or eliminate causes of conflict. They deal with an array of problems such as family, financial, and educational situations. Counselors provide emotional support and counseling, and lead recreational activities.

Entry Requirements
Generally, RESIDENTIAL COUNSELORS have a bachelor's degree in counseling, or a related field. Most states have some form of counselor (including residential counselors) credentialing legislation, such as licensure, certification, or registry. Requirements vary from state to state. In some states, credentialing is mandatory, and in others, voluntary.
