Topics of Study

In this program, you will learn about the theory and practice of teaching students in the elementary grades, which may include kindergarten through grade eight, depending on the school system or state regulations. This includes preparation to teach all elementary education subject matter, and may also include Montessori and Waldorf/Steiner teaching principles and methods. You will study courses which will make you well grounded in a broad general education background, along with more specific courses in curriculum and instruction, and teaching methods.

Degrees

• A certificate or associate degree will qualify to become a paraprofessional and work as a teacher's aide.
• A bachelor's degree is required to enter most occupations related to this field.
• A graduate degree is required in some states within a specified period of time.
• A doctoral degree is required to teach in higher education.
