In this major, you will learn how to prepare and dispense drugs and medications in consultation with prescribing physicians. You will study the principles of medicinal chemistry, and drug behavior in humans. You will learn the practice of pharmacy, such as keeping patient medication records, monitoring drug therapies, and educating patients, physicians, and others on proper use of medications. This major includes drug development, pharmacy administration, medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, natural products chemistry, and pharmaceutical economics.
Degrees
- A Pre-pharmacy major must be completed before you can be accepted to study for a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
- Pharmacists can be found in many settings such as community businesses, hospitals and other health care institutions, product research and development companies, public health, government regulatory agencies and education.
