Dialysis Technician

Work Tasks

DIALYSIS TECHNICIANS operate kidney dialysis machines. The machines filter normal waste products and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys can no longer perform that function. Dialysis technicians work under the supervision of doctors and nurses. Technicians are responsible for both patient care and dialysis equipment maintenance and repair. Dialysis technicians get the dialysis equipment and the patient ready for the procedure. They watch the machine and make needed adjustments during dialysis. Dialysis technicians sometimes train patients for at-home dialysis treatment and provide them with the emotional support they need for self-care.
