In this program, you will study the practice of osteopathic medicine. This involves a combination of medical principles and procedures, the osteopathic principles of holistic medicine, and the relationship of the musculoskeletal system to general health. You will learn how to diagnose and treat health problems through manipulation of body parts, possibly supplemented with drug therapy or surgery. You will learn the basic medical sciences, preventive medicine, family and community medicine, and disease systems.
Degrees
- This program is offered by graduate schools. These schools have established a working relationship with hospitals in their area in order to provide a setting for the clinical experiences and rotations that are critical to the training of osteopaths.
- Doctors of Osteopathy must pass a national examination before they are permitted to practice. Once they are certified, osteopaths are able to specialize in any area of medicine.
