FASHION ARTISTS use an assortment of materials, including pencils, pen and ink, acrylics, water colors, and computers to draw illustrations of women's, men's, and children's clothing and accessories. They create advertisements and paint or draw pictures for newspapers, magazines, television, brochures, pamphlets, and catalogs. Fashion artists illustrate the latest fashions from clothes worn by mannequins, live models, and photographs. They try to show clothes in such a way as to attract the attention of consumers and stimulate their interest to buy.

Entry Requirements
Although there are no specific formal training requirements for FASHION ARTISTS, it is difficult to become skilled enough to make a living without some basic training. Bachelor's and graduate degree programs in fine arts are offered in colleges and universities. Evidence of appropriate talent and skills, displayed in a portfolio is an important factor used by employers to decide whether to hire a person. Formal educational programs in art also provide training in computer techniques. Computers are widely used in the visual arts, and knowledge and training in them are critical for many jobs in these fields. No special licensing or certification is required for fashion artists.
