INTERVIEWING/NEW ACCOUNTS CLERKS obtain information from individuals and business representatives who are opening bank accounts, gaining admission to medical facilities, participating in consumer surveys, and completing various types of forms. They collect information by mail, by telephone, or in person. Interviewing/new accounts clerks verify and process information and create a file for it. New accounts clerks interview people who want to open a checking or savings account and record the data directly into a computer. In hospitals, clinics, and other health care facilities, interviewing clerks obtain all preliminary information from patients before they are admitted.

Entry Requirements

Most employers prefer applicants for positions as INTERVIEWING/NEW ACCOUNTS CLERKS to have some college education. Banks prefer to hire college graduates for new account clerk positions. Experience with computers, and good interpersonal skills are often equally important to employers. Training for new employees usually takes place on the job under the guidance of a supervisor or an experienced clerk. Some employers look for applicants who already have certain skills, such as computer and word processing experience. Some employers may also prefer some formal office education or training.
