SECURITY SYSTEM INSTALLERS install burglar alarm, fire protection, closed-circuit television (CCTV), and various other surveillance systems on the customer's premises. They work with electrical and electronic equipment. Security system installers put in new systems or replace existing systems with new equipment. They may work closely with contractors and construction workers in the installation of security systems in new buildings. They also fix problems in installed systems, mount additional equipment, and may do inspections of existing systems.

SECURITY SYSTEM INSTALLERS generally need to have an understanding of electricity and electronics. Most employers prefer to hire people with high school or technical school courses in basic electricity and electronics, and mathematics. Many security system installers get training through programs lasting one to two years at vocational schools and community colleges. Many companies provide apprenticeship opportunities or on-the-job training on specific systems and equipment.
