In this program, you will learn how planning for future development will improve the social and environmental well-being of the inhabitants of an area. You will learn to apply principles of analysis and planning to the development and improvement of urban and surrounding regions, including residential and commercial buildings, open space, and recreational areas. You will study the principles of architecture, master plan development, transportation systems design, community and commercial development, land use planning, and applied economics.
Degrees
- An associate degree from a two-year college will qualify for technical support jobs within the field.
- A bachelor's degree will allow access to positions in a wide variety of settings such as urban planning, housing, land use planning, economic development planning, or program management, in public, private, or non-profit organizations.
- A graduate degree will provide opportunities in management and in teaching.
