This program prepares individuals to master musical instruments, including voice, and to perform solo or as members of a musical ensemble. Instruction includes one or more specific instruments from various instrumental groupings. You will focus on theory, melody, counterpoint, harmony, modulation, instrumentation, orchestration, and studies of specific musical styles.
Degrees
- Certificate programs focus on improving skills in one type of musical performance.
- Associate and bachelor's degree programs include useful background courses in other subjects and experience with a variety of music.
- A bachelor's degree is helpful when applying for jobs with music-related organizations like small ensembles and orchestras, or as a teacher, composer, or music critic, librarian, or instrument manufacturer.
- A graduate degree is usually required for college teaching, music therapy, or research.
