This broad major is intended to orient you to sales and merchandising operations as a whole. You will learn how to buy and sell products in a variety of settings, and techniques for promoting products and services to customers. You will study basic sales skills, goods distribution, entrepreneurial economics, sales operations, and merchandising. You will learn about product evaluation, customer service, and leadership and supervision skills.
Degrees
- A certificate program or associate's degree prepares individuals to take responsibility for a department in a store, work for a wholesaler, or as a customer service representative.
- A bachelor's degree will prepare for upper level management positions in a retail store or in wholesale distribution, purchasing, consumer research, or as a buyer for a department store.
- A graduate degree is usually required to teach in this field.
