You will receive instruction in the operation of firefighting equipment and methods of controlling and extinguishing all types of fires. You will study fire rescue techniques and methods of handling various kinds of combustible and hazardous materials. You will study regulations which govern fire protection and public relations techniques used to advise people.

Degrees

• A fire science certificate or an associate in applied science degree will qualify to work in fire protection or fire safety, or to administer fire protection services.
• Advanced practical course in fire science management is offered by some four-year colleges and prepares you to plan safety programs or move into management.
• Graduates with a degree in this major might manage, direct and control fire departments or work for a fire inspection and investigation company.
