In this program, you will learn theory and practice of teaching students from infancy through eight years (grade three), depending on school system or state regulations. This includes kindergarten and preschool education in all relevant subjects. If you are going to teach early childhood education, you will study courses which will give you a broad general education background, including curriculum and instruction, teaching methods, communications skills, math, biological, physical, and social sciences, and health sciences.
Degrees
- A certificate or associate degree will qualify for paraprofessional status and work as a teacher's aide, or for transfer to a four-year college to complete a bachelor's degree.
- A bachelor's degree is needed to enter most occupations in this field, and requirements for certification must also be met.
- A graduate degree within a specified period of time is required in some states.
- A doctoral degree is required to teach in higher education.
