This program focuses on languages and literature of Asia, including South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australia, Oceanic, and Pacific languages. This includes Chinese, Tibetan, Japanese and Korean; Hindi and Urdu; Filipino and Vietnamese; and Micronesian and Polynesian languages. It includes instruction in philology, linguistics, dialects and pidgins, and literature. You will examine cultures to develop a better understanding of historical, geographical, and geopolitical forces. You will also study oral and written literatures of the languages.
Degrees
- A certificate program might prepare for occupations like customs official or travel agent, or to work in an Asian country.
- A bachelor's degree is usually required to enter occupations such as teacher, translator, researcher, interpreter, or in tourism.
- A graduate degree is usually needed to become a professor, linguist, or work in other fields such as international law, business, diplomacy or medicine.
