DRAMATISTS (PLAYWRIGHTS) write dialogue and action for plays. Dramatists may adapt themes from historical, fictional, or narrative sources for dramatic presentation on stage, screen, radio, or television. Dramatists combine the elements of action, conflict, purpose, and resolution to depict events from real or imaginary life. They write a plot outline and narrative synopsis. Dramatists meet with the director and/or producer about possible revisions. Some dramatists may serve in the role of producer and find the actors, director, and set and lighting designers.

Entry Requirements
There are no specific educational requirements for DRAMATISTS (PLAYWRIGHTS). College courses in creative writing, English, theater, and communications will be helpful. No special licensing or certification is required for dramatists (playwrights).
