GAME DESIGNERS write computer programs and design graphics for video games. They define how the game is played and develop the rules of the game, the setting, and the story and how it develops. They develop the characters, weapons, vehicles, and other devices that the characters use. Game designers work with a team of artists, animators, producers, and audio engineers to produce a prototype. They may test the games themselves to make sure the games play as they were planned.

Entry Requirements
There is no formal advancement path for GAME DESIGNERS. Those with experience may be promoted within their workplace. Game designers with project and people-management skills may become lead designers. Some game designers may move into management and marketing jobs. Others may become self-employed, doing freelance work on a contract basis.
