LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS design areas such as small gardens, public parks, shopping centers, and golf courses so that they are not only functional but beautiful and environmentally appropriate. They make the best use of the land while respecting the natural environment. They consider the needs and budget of the client. They analyze the climate, soil, slope and other factors of the land. After assessing the site, they draw up plans to present to client. When design is approved, they prepare detailed working drawings with proposed features and needed materials. Depending on the size of the project, they may hire helpers or contract out some of the work.

Entry Requirements
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS usually require a bachelor's or master's degree in landscape architecture. Practically all states require landscape architects to be licensed or registered. Licensing is based on the Landscape Architecture Registration Examination, sponsored by the Council of Landscape Architecture Registration Boards. Admission to the examination usually requires a degree from an accredited school, plus one to four years of work experience, although standards vary from state to state. Applicants are tested on all aspects of landscape architecture.
