HOME-ENTERTAINMENT EQUIPMENT REPAIRERS, or service technicians, install, service, and repair a variety of home electronics equipment, including televisions and radios, CD players, VCR and DVD players, and video cameras. They repair home security systems, intercoms, electronic musical instruments, and home theater equipment. Home-entertainment equipment repairers conduct a routine check for common sources of trouble such as defective parts, faulty circuits, or poor connections. Repairers also talk to customers to help identify the problem.

Entry Requirements
Employers prefer applicants for HOME-ENTERTAINMENT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER positions who have basic knowledge and skill in electronics. Applicants should be familiar with schematics and have some hands-on experience repairing electronic equipment. Many applicants gain these skills at vocational training programs and community colleges. Programs take from 1 to 2 years. The military also offers formal training and work experience. To receive certification, repairers must pass qualifying examinations corresponding to their level of training and experience.
