In this program, you will learn to help dentists as you provide patient care, take dental x-rays, prepare patients and equipment for dental procedures, and discharge office administrative functions under the supervision of dentists and dental hygienists. You will study medical-record keeping, general office duties, reception and patient intake, equipment maintenance, basic radiography, pre- and post-operative patient care, chairside assisting, taking tooth and mouth impressions, and supervised practice.
Degrees
- A certificate or associate degree will qualify for dental assisting in dentists' offices, clinics, and other settings, such as hospitals and nursing homes.
- A dental assisting certificate requires completion of an accredited program and passing a licensure examination.
