Alcohol/Drug Abuse Counseling

This is a program that prepares individuals to help prevent substance abuse, counsel individuals and families with drug and alcohol problems, and perform intervention and therapeutic services for persons suffering from addiction. You will study individual and group counseling skills, the psychology of addiction, sociology, crisis intervention, substance abuse identification methodologies and treatment modalities, and prevention and treatment resources.
Degrees
- A certificate or associate degree program prepares you to assist in alcohol or drug abuse counseling.
- A bachelor's degree is generally required to work as an alcohol or drug abuse counselor. Clinical certification by one or more national counseling organizations may also be required.
