RECREATIONAL GUIDES meet with clients to discuss travel plans, and answer questions they may have. They sell or rent equipment, clothing, and supplies for a trip and get licenses and permits for clients. They arrange for places to stay, transportation, equipment, and supplies needed for the trip. They choose hunting, fishing, and camping sites, guide clients to these locations, and explain local laws and regulations.

Entry Requirements

Most employers prefer applicants for RECREATIONAL GUIDE jobs to have at least a high school diploma. Employers look for guides who have knowledge and experience in their field, and the mechanical skills necessary to maintain their equipment. Those who have had some college courses, such as leisure studies, physical education, or emergency medical services have an advantage. Some guides, such as white-water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bicycling, and camping guides, are trained on the job.
