In this program, you will learn therapeutic care of persons with hearing and speech disorders. You will study principles of audiology and learn to identify, assess, and rehabilitate hearing loss. You will study structure and development of speech disorders and learn therapeutic techniques to correct them. You will study planning and management of patient care. You will take courses in basic sciences, social sciences, math, and humanities. You will learn anatomy and physiology of communication and look at causes of speech and hearing problems.
Degrees
- A master's degree is the minimum requirement in order to practice this profession.
- Speech-language pathologists and audiologists work in hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, and research; others work in nursing care facilities, laboratories, colleges and universities, and private practice.
- Graduates with a degree in communication disorders science and services may also find work opportunities in the areas of occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social work.
